I remember wondering who Chuck Taylor was when I was a kid. I also wondered why they put the logo on the inside where nobody could see it. In researching this I found out that it's actually a pad to protect your anklebone!

If you've just found this comic and want to read the whole fiasco, I suggest that you go to the first one and slog your way through it. It starts off terribly then goes downhill from there. It's mostly gag-a-day but some gags take two to four pages to deliver a punchline. You can see which ones by looking at the archive.

Confused me a little, I thought those last two statements were connected. Gotta admire the detail on those converse. When I was a kid I hated baseball boots, but that’s what I had to wear. They were always cheap knock-offs from a market stall and I was glad when they went out of fashion.

I never heard them called that. When I was a kid they were the softest, most comfortable shoes around. The alternative was hard leather soles. Compared to my current running shoes, they're terrible!

I dunno why I disliked them, possibly because they came up over your ankles. I was quite a conservative young kid, and 70's fashion was just horrible. So we had flared trousers, paisley pattern Y-fronts, brown flowery shirts with big pointy collars and tank-tops.

Yeah my running shoes are way better, but then so are my sketchers with memory foam soles. Still they were a very iconic design that every kid wore in the 70's

You didn’t like the “high-tops”? I was always bummed out when my mother would get the “low-tops”….seemed like the bad kids were wearing the highs.

Do you think it'd read better if I put Kay's second line in a separate bubble down lower? I'm open for suggestions for improvements.

If you want them to be unconnected then either alter the wording,
"He's a basketball player,.. oh and I can see your cards", or (as you said) use a second bubble.

I like the addition of this new character, Kay. At least, I don't believe I've seen her before.

She actually goes way back. She started out as a punchline here.
You can search for other comics where she's appeared.
It's funny, but she's been fleshed out in my mind over time. I know a lot about her future history, such as, she's tall and strong and will play high school basketball for the Hicksville Hooters girl's team. She'll develop other interests in college.

When I was a kid, I thought Hanna Barbera was the name of a woman cartoon creator.

I was really happy to see a new post and the source material is really near to my heart. We called our sneakers “sneaks”…I had Chuck Taylors and felt jealous of the other kids in my class who wore JOX. In retrospect I guess I was the cool kid in school with my classic sneaks.
Thought you would have been from the “tennis shoe” part of the country.🤔
