That's what people who exercised were called back then, like they were the odd ones. With all due respect for the farmers, they got plenty of exercise at work. Rob basically had a desk job. He got in shape in the army and found that he liked it.
Area5.1 has been helping me with my comics and pointed out that my shading was much too subtle. He even sent me this image to illustrate what he meant.

UPDATE! Nauthor has a new piece in the fan art section! Check it out!
And now there's one from BitterBadger!

The art work is amazing....and the set up is perfect for a horror movie! You've got me worried about what's hiding in the corn field.

I find it much more plausible that he was an alien abductee who has been returned and is now fleeing the field. A week later the farmers would find a crop circle. If you look closely the fellow is giving the Vulcan greeting with his hand. Unfortunately, the farmer who finds the crop circle will die an untimely death due to low dose radiation exposure.

Interesting theory, but you're wrong in almost every respect. I hope you'll find out what's really going on before it's... too late!

More like coffee with cream and sugar back then, followed by a bacon and eggs breakfast after he gets back.

It reminds me of Back to the Future 3, where Doc Brown is (apparently drunk and) telling the guys in the saloon all about the future.

That's a wonderfully thick cigar he's nursing! Hopefully the tractor's diesel and we don't have anymore incidents!

So this is what the fellow from American Gothic does when he's not posing for paintings.

Not that the artwork isn't gorgeous, but is the main comic today supposed to have no dialogue? (That's how it's showing up for me anyway)

Oops! I must have forgotten to make it visible after I added the shading. I'll fix it. thanks for pointing it out! :D
Ok,I figured out what was going on. It turns out that if you just make layers visible Krita doesn't see it as a changed file and just overwrites it as the same file. I had to open the text and save it before Krita noticed the change. Live and learn. And thanks for saying the art is gorgeous!
